The proposal was to add 3 repetitive small extensions to 3 living spaces within the existing openings of a Silos Apartment in Newtown. By doing so, the circular floor plans become more versatile and liveable. This happens by extending living spaces outwards, providing a subtle rectilinear geometry (while respecting the circle), and creating more useable shelter in the exposed external area by extending the threshold between the interior and exterior.
The geometry and materiality is designed to compliment the existing: articulating edges between old and new, an industrial material palette as per the surrounds, and a rhythm of repetition like of the silos themselves.
This project is not going ahead at this time but stay in tune for the next phase, which will be a re-working of the interior.
